Harry Potter

Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets
J.K.Rowling

Summer was creeping over the grounds around the castle; sky
and lake alike turned periwinkle blue and flowers large as cabbag-
es burst into bloom in the greenhouses. But with no Hagrid visible
from the castle windows, striding the grounds with Fang at his he-
els, the scene didn't look right to Harry; no better, in fact, than the
inside of the castle, where things were so horribly wrong.

J.K.Rowling was very committed to her writing, she stuck to the plan of writing seven books to finish the story. I cant help but wonder if she ever got agitated and decided to quit, but then realized all the people who would be disappointed if she did. But I am sure with encouragement of her family it was easy to finish a ll these puny tales.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
J.K. Rowling

So Harry set off into the heart of the forest with Malfoy and
Fang. They walked for nearly half an hour, deeper and deeper into
the forest, until the path became almost impossible to follow be-
cause the trees were so thick. Harry thought the blood seemed to
be getting thicker. There were splashes on the roots of a tree, as
though the poor creature had been thrashing around in pain close
by. Harry could see a clearing ahead, through the tangled branches
of an ancient oak.

The content of this author brings to my mind the a world of the
unimaginable, where extraordinary animals come to life. Then the
magic of this book brings a feeling that makes you wish you were
there, doing magic spells with the characters of this book. Then I
remember magic is not real and go back to enjoying the story rather
then wishing I was there.

I would not suggest this book to kids under the age of ten or
eight depending on their maturity. To anyone older than ten or eight
I whole heartily encourage you to read it with the mind of enjoying
it rather than believing it.

Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone
by: J.K. Rowling

Hermione didn't turn up for the next class and wasn't seen all af-
ternoon. On their way to the Great Hall for the Halloween feast,
Harry and Ron overheard Parvati Patil telling her friend Lavender
that Hermione was crying in the girls' bathroom and wanted to be
left alone. Ron looked still more awkward at this, but a moment
latter they had entered the Great Hall, where the Halloween dec-
orations put Hermione out of their minds.

J.K. Rowling's use of adjectives like ( great, Halloween, etc.) make the reading more interesting. These adjectives show how great something is and how it makes the reader more interested in the story. Also the use of the adverbs like (awkward) give a sense of relating to the story.

I will suggest this to anyone who likes mysteries and magical tales. Then to little kids who are the age ten and up because of maturity and for kids who can stand certain scary elements.

When the Heart Cries

When the Heart Cries
by: Cindy Woodsmall

As Hannah opened the cattle gate, Paul appeared in the double-wide
doorway to the barn . His head was hatless, a condition frowned upon by
her bishop, revealing hair the color of ripe hay glistening under the sun.
His blue eyes showed up in Hannah's dreams regularly.

As I get out of the car, I see the waves hitting the already hard packed
sand. The waves this morning were fierce, usually a beautiful sight, showing
the blue and green color of the rocks. The green one doesn't regularly see.

The Hope of Refuge

The Hope of Refuge
by Cindy Woodsmall

Stunned at the feelings surging through him, he turned from Anna Mary's probing eyes and gazed out across the field. Answers to Cara's past
were hiding among the Amish of Dry Lake. And whether anyone in his
community liked it or not, Cara deserved to be treated as a treasure once
stolen and now returned to them by a power not her own.

Cara in this story is a steadfast woman in heart , and very concerned about her daughters welfare. Now Cara in this story needs protection and help consoling her feelings.
She is a very independent woman she is the type of person who will do anything to protect her daughter.

This book is sufficient with lots of love and concern. I love this book because it is not a story that doesnt have a moral meaning and is very interesting. I would also recommend this book to anyone.

The Hope of Refuge

The Hope of refuge
An Ada's House Novel: written by Cindy Woodsmall

Lines of honesty were often blurred by desperation. Cara loathed that
she couldn't apply for government help and that she had to uproot every
few months to stay a few steps ahead of a maniac. Moving always cost
money. Fresh security deposits on ever-increasing rents. Working time
lost as she searched for another job--each on even more pathetic than the
one before it. Mike had managed to steal everything from her but mere
existence. And her daughter.

This writer is experienced, a very simple writer. Her work is very interesting it is not like any other book i have read before, she likes to draw you in and tell you about many characters in a book that are very interesting. Without this book, I would have a different out look on life. This book is very good book to read for any age under 13, because it does deal with hard adult issues that could happen in life and give younger kids a taste of what its like just in case they were to run into these problems in their life.

I love this book even though I have not finished it yet. Without it, I would be very absent-minded. I hope that anyone who runs into this book would take the time to read it and enjoy it like I did.

" Don Quijote"

Don Quijote
by Miguel Cervantes
At this point, Sancho began to wake up and, feeling some squirming shape
almost on top of him, thought he was having a nightmare, and began to start
to punch the thing all over, and since the blows landed all over Maritornes,
and hurt like blazes, she threw modesty to the winds and began to give Sancho
as good as she was getting, which jostled him unpleasantly right out of his dream
and, realizing he was being beaten, but not knowing by whom, he heaved himself
up as best as he could and tackled Maritornes, at which point the two of them began
the most savagely funny skirmish you've ever seen.

At this point , Sancho began to wake up and, feeling some moving thing almost on top of him, he thought he was having a bad dream, and began to punch the thing all over, and since the slugs landed all over Maritornes, and hurt very badly, she moved modesty to the side and began to give Sancho all she got, which then woke him up right out of his dream, and realizing he was being attacked, but not knowing who it was , he got up as best as he could and attacked Maritornes , at which point the two of them began the most funny battle you have ever seen.

I personally do not like this book. One reason is because it is boring to the gore and is very descriptive. Although it has a good story base it is still very boring , and if the author were to change it up a bit it would be much more interesting to read. I also would like to see the story switched up and a little more romance in it. Anyway besides all that stuff its a pretty good book.

When the Heart Cries
by:Cindy Woodsmall

If Hannah, his queen of understatements , used the word "dreadful", he knew
things had been horrendous. He held her, not sure he'd ever know the full extent
of what had gone wrong since he'd left. For now, it was enough to know that in
eight months, he'd be finished with school and living within a mile of her. As soon
as possible they'd get married, and no would ever keep them a part again.

I love the words the author used in this paragraph. Like "horrendous" because the author is telling you how the character is really feeling at the moment. I also love how Hannah the character is explained as his "queen of understatements." I love this book and all the words the author uses in all her books. She is amazing and outstanding with every
word she uses.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves romantic books and hard situations.
There is a lot of hard challenges that pop up in the book. This book also had a bit of an
amish twist but it is a book I would read a hundred times and not get tired of it. Its amazing
and I think that if anyone gave it a try the would love it.

"Captain from Castile"

"Captain from Castile"
by Samuel Shellabarger
Five men were dragged up to the platform, their feet, legs and arms
bound rigidly, so that they were incapable of movement. Usually at this
time a handful of yauhtli or Indian hemp was thrown into the faces of the victims
to deaden the coming ordeal, but no such kindness would be wasted on the white
enemies. The men were loaded upon the backs of five priests who began a lumbering
dance around the fire. Then, one by one, they heaved their burdens into the flames, to
writhe and howl until the steaming bodies were hooked out, still living, fro the sacrificial
stone and knife.

I love this author. He has a very good mind of how to get someone hooked into a book,
it brings you right in. He also wants to make it exciting he doesn't just write facts he writes stuff
thats interesting. He wrote interesting things: like war, love, and friendship. This is what I think
about his writing.

Now I would recommend this book to high-schoolers and adults. One reason is because the
book is a little disturbing, and it has a little bit of adult content. Overall I personally think this is
a good and exciting book. I also love this book because it is a little bit challenging. This is my
opinion of the book.

" Don Quijote"

Don Quijote, Miguel De Cervantes
Translated by Burton Raffel
This advice seemed sensible to Don Quijote, so he took hold of Rocinante's reins, Sancho grasped his donkey's bridle (after having loaded onto his back whatever was left from their supper), and they began to walk slowly across the meadow, feeling their way, for it was to dark to see a thing. But they hadn't gone two hundred paces when they heard a loud roaring of water, as if plunging down from some great height. The sound was immensely cheering, so they came to a halt, trying to make sure just where it was coming from, but suddenly they heard a different, clamoring noise that considerably diluted their pleasure - and especially Sancho's, hor he was naturally fainthearted and of small courage. What they heard let me tell you, was something banging rhythmically, with an even, regular clanking of fetters and chains, which together with the tremendous roaring of water could have brought fear to any heart other than Don Quijote's.

I personally love this part of the book, because if you read on it tells you that the sound of the banging is really clock towers. This author brings a lot of detail and noble words into this book. Which I personally do not like. Another thing is he makes Don Quijote so crazy, that it isn't funny anymore. It is like he has ran out of ideas to write about. As for the content some of it is good and the rest bores me to tears. Personally I think Cervantes made this book as a make fun of someone he knew. I also do not like how Don Quijote in the story just keeps wandering around for place to place, It is like the story is never going to end. One thing i do like is Cervantes sense of humor. This book is a good book to read if you like challenging things to read. Also for men, because there is battling, and gore. For girls there are the ways Don Quijote does insane stuff just for his lady. I would not recommend this book to children. These are ny thoughts about the book, but read the book and decide for yourself.

Captain from Castile: by Samuel Shellabarger

Peace after toil, port after stormy seas. No words could better describe Francisco de Vargas's retirement from active life. Though at times especially after a visit or letter from some old comrade-he still discussed the possibility of returning to the service of king and honor in the arena of Italy, and cast yearning eyes on his weapons, he was becoming happily reconciled to the comforts of home and garden.
In this disposition, Dona Maria warmly encouraged him. She pointed out that since their marriage in Florence twenty years ago, he had spent little more time with her than was enough to beget their children. She doubted, indeed, wether they would have children at all, except for the fact that she had passed some of those years in her father's house, and had thus been available between campaigns.
"Honor, sir,"she declared with Italian good sense," is all very well until it becomes an excuse for travel and junketing. You have had all you need of it. A man of your years with a bad knee should not be elbowing young fellows and roaring Santiago in a charge."

I LOVE Captain from Castile so far its exciting. There is danger, romance, and adventures. The way the author made this book is awesome, he made so as it draws anybody in. There's romance for girl teenagers. There are moments of danger for guy teenagers. There is also everything a adult could look for. So I think this book is a very good book to read.

Now the content of this book is great. Except for the parts where he is describing something, he tends to drag on what he's describing. There are some parts that I wish part of the captions were in English instead of Spanish. This way I could understand more of what he's telling me. After all of that though, I think he's a wonderful author.

The host

The host: by Stephenie Meyer author of the twilight saga

I never had to mourn on the Origin. I didn't know how it was done there, in the
truest home of my kind. So i settled for the way of the Bats. It seemed appropriate, here
where it was as black as being blind. The Bats mourned with silence-not singing for weeks
on end until the pain of the nothingness left behind by the lack of music was worse than the
pain of losing a soul. I'd known less there. A friend, killed in a freak accident, a falling tree
in the night, found too late to save him from the crushed body of his host. Spiraling . . .
Upward . . . Harmony; those were the words that would have held his name in this language.
Not exact, but close enough. There had been no horror in his death, only grief. An accident.

I love this book with all my heart. Stephenie Meyer is an awesome
writer. All of her books are filled with adventure, excitement, and romance.
There has not been one book I have not enjoyed by her. Stephenie's books
to me are like opening a whole new world, because her books bring a whole new
world within chapters. Her books suck you in once you start reading
and there's no going back your hooked instantly. this is why I love this book
so much.

I think Stephanie knows what she's doing and is good at it.
I will would recommend this book to anyone. Except children who are 12 and
under, because of scary parts in the story. Otherwise I find that even adults would
love to read this book thats full of adventure.
